IMF chief charged with rape bid on hotel maid

WASHINGTON: The licentious libido of the man nicknamed "lapin chaud" (hot rabbit in French) may have finally laid him low.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, managing director of the International Monetary Fund was bundled out of a Paris-bound plane at JFK Airport on Saturday minutes before it was to depart, following complaints of sexual assault by a maid at a Midtown Manhattan hotel.

The 62-year-old Strauss-Kahn, widely expected to become the Socialist candidate for the French presidency in 2012, was caught "on charges of criminal sexual act, attempted rape, and an unlawful imprisonment in connection with a sexual assault".

Police said, around 1pm on Saturday, the 32-year-old maid entered Strauss-Kahn's $3,000-a-night suite, believing it was unoccupied. "She told detectives he came out of the bathroom naked, ran to the foyer where she was, pulled her into a bedroom and began to sexually assault her," police said. "She pulled away and he dragged her...into the bathroom where he engaged in a criminal sexual act... He tried to lock her into the room." A TV report said Strauss-Kahn forced her to perform oral sex on him.
