NEW DELHI: Air travellers will know on Thursday whether the nine-day Air India-domestic strike will end soon or continue into the upcoming holiday season. In a climbdown from its "no talks till strike is on" stand and veiled threats of partial lockdown and mass sacking, the aviation ministry on Wednesday began a dialogue with pilots of the erstwhile Indian Airlines to end the deadlock.
The talks, which started around 7pm, remained inconclusive on the twin demands of an interim pay hike for IA pilots by giving them a fixed payment for 75 flying hours every month and a CBI probe into the mismanagement that has brought the carrier on the brink of closure. The talks are expected to reach a decisive stage on Thursday.
